The whole chalet from outside, with its wraparound deck and a flag

Three floors, three bedrooms, three full bathrooms

A custom-built chalet in the woods above Loon Lake. Here it is, floor by floor.

Ground floor

A second living room with a futon, a full bathroom with a shower, and the bunk room: two bunk units, each with a full bed on the bottom and a single on top. Airbnb’s own note is worth repeating, there is limited sitting-up room on the top bunks, so they suit children best. Two single cots are available if you need them.

Main floor

The main living room with the wood stove, the kitchen, the dining room, a queen bedroom, a full bathroom with a shower, and the jacuzzi room, available October to May, with the bar beside it. The wraparound deck runs off this floor. The sofa converts to a sleeper.

Top floor

The master: a queen bed, an en-suite bathroom with a shower, French doors onto a private deck, and a ceiling fan. The portable air conditioning unit lives up here.

Who sleeps where

  • Bedroom 1, one queen
  • Bedroom 2, one queen
  • Bedroom 3, two bunk units: a full bed below and a single above on each
  • Main-floor sofa, converts to a sleeper
  • Two single cots, on request

That is six fixed beds, two queens and four bunk mattresses, plus the sofa bed and the cots. The two queen rooms take four people between them, so an adult group fills the bunk room and the sofa bed as well. Worth knowing before you book rather than after.

The kitchen

Gas range, oven, dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, kettle, toaster, blender, baking sheet, wine glasses, real dishes and silverware, and a dining table that seats the group. Full-size washer and dryer, plus a drying rack. BBQ grill and grill tools outside.

The stairs

This is a three-storey house built into a slope. There is no step-free route between the floors, and there is no way to stay on one level only. If someone in your group should avoid stairs, the main floor has a queen bedroom and a full bathroom on it, but they will still have stairs to reach the front door and the beach path.

Air conditioning

There is none, centrally. There is a portable A/C unit in the top-floor master, a ceiling fan, and portable fans in the bedrooms. Nights in the Adirondacks cool off and the house sits in the woods. August afternoons on the top floor still get warm. If you need air conditioning to sleep, please book somewhere else, we would rather lose the booking than the review.
