Summer on Loon Lake
The beach, the boats, the fire pit, and the twenty-minute radius around them.
The beach, and exactly who else is on it
Loon Lake is at the bottom of the path, through the trees. It is beach access, sand, not a ladder off a dock, and it is the reason the location score on this house is a 5.0 as reviewed on Airbnb. Beach chairs, towels and an umbrella are provided, and there are sun loungers for the deck.
It is not a public beach. Two houses share this stretch of shoreline, ours and one neighbouring family’s, and that is the whole list. We would rather tell you the number now than have you walk down expecting an empty beach. Most mornings it is empty anyway.
Quiet hours on the beach run 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. That is not our rule, it is how this community works, and it is a large part of why it is so quiet here.
The boats
On the water and near it
Swim, paddle, jet-ski or fish. The Schroon and the Hudson are both known trout rivers and both are close.
Evenings outside
Twenty minutes in each direction
- Chestertown, the closest village, with shops and places to eat.
- Warrensburg, antiques and a well-known town-wide garage sale weekend in the autumn.
- North Creek, the Hudson, the rail trail, and the road up to Gore.
- Gore Mountain, twenty minutes, and open in the summer as well as the winter.
- The High Peaks, 46 of them, plus a great deal of easier walking inside Adirondack Park. Hiking is one of the topics guests mention.

What summer does not include
The hot tub is closed from June through September. It runs October to May. We would rather say that here than have you find out on arrival.
There is also no central air conditioning. The house sits in the woods and the nights cool off, there are ceiling and portable fans, and there is a portable A/C unit in the top-floor master bedroom. Afternoons upstairs in August still get warm. The honest answer is that the cure for hot is a short walk down the path.
